L’ultime grande création de Carolyn Carlson pour sa compagnie.
La chorégraphe nous livre ici une réflexion poétique sur l’humanité et la nature, au bord du naufrage… Après Eau, Pneuma et Now, elle vient clore le cycle de pièces inspirées par Gaston Bachelard.
Partant cette fois-ci Des Fragments d’une poétique du feu, Carolyn Carlson choisit la force poétique et symbolique des flammes et plus largement la complexité des éléments comme inspirations de cette nouvelle création.
L’artiste peintre Gao Xingjian, également prix Nobel de littérature en 2000, en sublime la scénographie avec ses toiles abstraites à l’encre de chine projetées sur scène.
Ses œuvres, paysages imaginaires monumentaux en noir et blanc, appellent à un voyage intérieur. En sept séquences-rêveries, rappelant les mythologies séculaires nordiques, en particulier celles issues de KAVEVALA – épopée finlandaise -, neuf danseurs représentent les instants primaires dont nous nous sommes tant éloignés : la conscience intemporelle de l’harmonie incessante aux creux de nos souffles, les feux intérieurs qui alimentent et consument l’âme humaine, la flamme universelle de l’amour.
Combinées à la virtuosité des danseurs et à la vision onirique de Carolyn Carlson, The Tree est une manifestation d’amour puissante et vitale à une nature au bord de l’effondrement, avec l’espoir d’une renaissance à la manière du Phénix qui renaît de ses cendres.
Sublime et d’une terrible actualité.

Carolyn Carlson’s last great creation for her company.
The choreographer gives us here a poetic reflection on humanity and nature, on the verge of shipwreck… After Water, Pneuma and Now, she comes to close the cycle of pieces inspired by Gaston Bachelard.
This time from The Fragments of a Poetics of Fire, Carolyn Carlson chooses the poetic and symbolic force of flames and more broadly the complexity of the elements as the inspiration for this new creation.
The painter Gao Xingjian, also Nobel Prize for Literature in 2000, sublimates the scenography with his abstract paintings in Indian ink projected on stage.
His works, monumental imaginary landscapes in black and white, call for an inner journey. In seven daydreaming sequences, recalling secular Nordic mythologies, in particular those from KAVEVALA - Finnish epic -, nine dancers represent the primary moments from which we have moved so far: the timeless awareness of the incessant harmony in the hollow of our breaths, the interior fires which feed and consume the human soul, the universal flame of love.
Combined with the virtuosity of the dancers and the dreamlike vision of Carolyn Carlson, The Tree is a powerful and vital manifestation of love to a nature on the verge of collapse, with the hope of a Phoenix-style rebirth that reborn from its ashes.
